Didn’t actually see much of the city during our brief 1 night stopover. I slept through most of the afternoon there, after the early morning train ride from Munich and without much sleep the night before. No qualms since the main objective of being in Vienna was to catch Coldplay live in concert that night.
Must be my first concert where the audience was treated to a thunderous rendition of The Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss before main act burst onstage. Probably it was a standard warm-up song in Vienna to hype up the crowd before a concert. But it worked and saw plenty of people actually getting up and dancing to the tune.
Coldplay was awesome – lots of play with lights and video presentation to enhance the music. Plus the band actually bothered to perform at various spots around the indoor stadium hall, which kept everyone happy of course. Chris Martin, the lead singer, was at his usual self – highly charged & energetic throughout the 2hr plus concert.
Would have loved to hear more from them, since the band has heaps of great songs. But curtain came down about 11pm after wonderful rendition of Yellow. Probably they want to save some good bits for next year, as a new album is schedule to be released soon in early 2009.
